Kung Fu Panda 4 (2024) Review

Posted by EthanCrossMedia - March 8th, 2024

While I was off the internet for hours on International Women's Day, I saw the new animated movie from DreamWorks Animation, Kung Fu Panda 4 in theatres. I'm giving this at 10/10 (5 stars on my review of this on Letterboxd). It's a great movie where all of Po's enemies return from the Spirit Realm watching Po fight the shape-shifting Chameleon. Instead of the Furious Five helping Po, he has found and teams up with Zhen who is a quick-witted corsec fox Zhen and she was chosen by Po to be the next Dragon Warrior and Po and the Furious Five is training her during the end credits.

As I'm now a young adult, I personally grew up watching the first 3 Kung Fu Panda movies in theatres. The first movie came out in 2008 when I was only 9 years old (as a kid) at that time when I saw it in theatres, the 2nd film came out in 2011 when I was only 12 years old, and the 3rd movie in 2016, when I was only 17 years old. Yeah, I'm a longtime fan of DreamWorks Animation, as I grew up with Shrek (one of the first movies I saw as a kid on DVD, along with Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, and Chicken Run (not produced by DreamWorks Animation, Aardman Animations made the animation, and my first exposure to stop motion animated film and the British animation studio) but was released by them on VHS. I even grew up with movies where Jack Black appeared in (I didn't know him until 2004 when I saw Shark Tale in theatres). This is also the last Kung Fu Panda film to be made in-house at DreamWorks Animation at their Glendale location. Future animated films after the release of the next upcoming film, The Wild Robot (as I saw the teaser again before the movie), will be sourced to outside studios, similar to their sister animation studio Illumination Entertainment.
